Upcoming 2012 : New Ford Focus Electric
New 2012 Ford Focus Electric come to anticipated choices of electric model trends. Although sales of electric cars are infinitesimal compared to regular vehicles, the next few years should change things a little as more automakers begin rolling out new fully electric models.
The first all-electric mass-production car from Ford, the 2012 Ford Focus Electric has created some buzz with a few notable claims. One is that it will have a mileage-equivalency rating 1 mpg higher than the Chevy Volt. The other is that its battery can be charged in as little as 3-4 hours — half the time of the Nissan Leaf — with the optional 240-volt home charging station.
Supplying power to the Ford Focus Electric ‘s 92-kilowatt electric drive motor will be a 23-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. For reference, the Leaf has an 80-kW motor and a 24-kWh battery. Ford promises an effective range of about 100 miles between charging. But as with all electric cars, actual performance will be highly dependent on driving style and environment.
Ford Focus Electric will come only in the more practical hatchback body style and will boast other leading-edge technologies, such as a smartphone app that will allow owners to remotely keep tabs on the car’s functions and settings. Other expected standard features include 17-inch alloy wheels, keyless ignition/entry, Sync, MyFord Touch, a voice-activated navigation system, six airbags, a Sony sound system and satellite radio with Sirius Travel Link as well as Ford Focus 2009 .
The 2012 Ford Focus Electric is set to debut in late 2011 in 19 pilot markets, including cities in Arizona, California, Florida and North Carolina. We’ll know more later this year about how it compares to the Leaf and other electric vehicles.
